Scruffy medic
I forgot how i stumbled upon her blog, was very touched by her entry on why she became a paramedic. What had happen to her and what she has to go through is unimaginable! I admire her courage for taking it strong and living her life as best. The photo of her injured arm on the newpaper tells so much... Very interesting read if you wan to know about the life of a paramedic.
ok enough of the sad stuffs.. here's some excerpts from funnier entries:
"An ambulance usually consists of a 3 to 4 men crew. The paramedic, the medic (medics are NS men in Civil Defence who are level 1 trained) and the ambulance driver(who is also trained in basic first-aid). Not to forget occasionally, a slightly over enthusiastic paramedic trainee. Occasionally we have other medical personel on attachment with the ambulance such as nurses, SAF combat medics (seek save serve!), medical students and doctors. The paramedic is overall crew leader - having the responsibilty of safety for the crew and oversees the care and treatment of the patient. So tell your kids we are not just "the ambulance people", its the paramedic and his dedicated crew of rescue personel!"

Dead beat today... had only 4 conveyed but lotsa inouts - calls that you left station but are taken over by another alpha. Our lingo for ambulance is alpha as in radio code for letter "a". And hospital is "Hotel". We have horrified quite a number of patients by a slip of the tongue.. "Oh mdm, we are taking you to hotel 4..." "No! i dowan go hotel! I want to go hospital!"
In short: Hotel 1 - SGH, Hotel 3 - AH, Hotel 4 - TTSH, Hotel 5 - CGH, Hotel 6 - NUH, Hotel 7a - KK children, 7 KK Women's.
So don't get freaked out the next time we offer to send you to a "hotel".
Why does the sound of an ambulance siren change when it goes by?
